François Hollande was the President of the French Republic from May 2012 to May 2017. During his mandate, he carried out important reforms which restored the competitiveness and the growth of the French economy. He faced with authority the terrorist attacks that afflicted the country in 2015 and 2016.

President Hollande took important decisions on behalf of France, in particular the engagement of the Army in Mali in order to fight against terrorist groups located in the Sahel. It is under his presidency that the global climate agreement was adopted in Paris in December 2015.

Today, President Hollande chairs the Foundation “France is committed” whose mission is to support all initiatives that contribute to reinforcing solidarity and creating bonds between citizens.

Since his departure from the Elysée, François Hollande has written several books, amongst them “The lessons of power” in which he describes the high points, and the low points of his presidency, and “The democratic crisis” where he suggests major modifications to the constitution of the fifth Republic.

François Gérard Georges Nicolas Hollande (French:[fʁɑ̃swaʒeʁaʁʒɔʁʒ(ə)nikɔlaɔlɑ̃d]; born 12 August 1954) is a French politician who served as President of France from 2012 to 2017. Before his presidency, he was First Secretary of the Socialist Party (PS) from 1997 to 2008, Mayor of Tulle from 2001 to 2008, as well as President of the General Council of Corrèze from 2008 to 2012. He also has also held the 1st constituency of Corrèze seat in the National Assembly three times, first from 1988 to 1993, then from 1997 to 2012, and from 2024 onwards.

Born in Rouen and raised in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hollande began his political career as a special advisor to newly elected President François Mitterrand before serving as a staffer for Max Gallo the government's spokesman. Born in Rouen, France in 1954, Mr Hollande graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Panthéon-Assas University and then attended the École Nationale d’Administration (ENA). He graduated from the ENA in 1980, and entered the prestigious Cour des Comptes, a Frenchadministrative court charged with conducting financial and legislative audits of most public institutions, including the National Government. 

Prime Minister Hollande began his political career in 1981, as a special advisor to newly elected President François Mitterrand. In 1988, Hollande then became a member of the National Assembly, and was elected First Secretary of the Socialist Party in 1997, replacing Lionel Jospin, who became Prime Minister under President Jacques Chirac. In 2001, he would go on to be elected mayor of Tulle, a position he held until 2008.
