Corning- Joseph A. Quinlan, Sr. 91, native son of Allegany and long-time Olean resident passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Painted Post, New York.
Joe was born and raised in Allegany and lived in the Quinlan homestead until the family moved to Olean in 1984. He was born on November 28, 1932, to Vincent L. and Irene (nee McGavisk) Quinlan.
He attended St. Bonaventure School, graduated Allegany Central School in 1950 and was an alumnus of St. Bonaventure University, Class of 1954, where he also pursued graduate studies in Education and where he earned a Wall Street Journal Fellowship in Journalism.
Upon graduation, Joe was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and later promoted to First Lieutenant. An Army Veteran, Joe served as a Forward Observer with the 22nd Regimental Combat 44th Field Artillery Division during the Korean Conflict and was also posted at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Hamilton and the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
