He was born in the United States of America. He is of African American, Caribbean and Mohawk (Native American) descent. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and grew up in Boston. He converted to Islam in Canada in 1970.
He received a Bachelor’s Degree from the Islamic University of Madinah in 1979. He was one of the first two students from the west and the first American to have done so and receive an Ijazah.
He received a Master’s Degree and PhD from the University of Toronto. His thesis was an analysis of the life and writings of Sheikh ‘Uthman Dan Fodio, a great West African Scholar, warrior, and social activist period Over the past four decades Quick has travelled to 61 countries where he lectured at universities, mosques and at public events.
He has also served as an imam, teacher, counsellor and media consultant in the USA, Canada, South Africa and the West Indies. Although many Muslims throughout the world are in tribulation, there seems to be a simultaneous revival taking place within the ummah today. Abdullah Hakim Quick addresses this by first reviewing some of the great Islamic revival movements of the past. He then discusses ways in which today’s ummah can have similar success despite the calamities facing it. The key to this success, as the speaker asserts, is the protection of each individual heart. Shaitan takes certain steps to capitalize on the weakness of the Muslim by utilizing ten inroads to the heart such as envy, greed, anger and haste. If Shaitan is successful, the ummah will continue to be confused and divided and, in effect, the revival will never happen. This practical presentation raises awareness of these inroads so the believer can be on guard and have hope for winning the battle against Shaitan. Abdullah Hakim Quick was born in the United States of America and accepted Islam in Canada in 1970. He pursued his study of Islam at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia where he graduated and received an Ijaza from the College of Da’wah and Islamic Sciences in 1979. He later completed a Masters Degree and a Doctorate in African History at the University of Toronto in Canada. His thesis was an analysis of the early life of Sheikh ‘Uthman Dan Fodio, a great West African Scholar, Mujaahid and social activist.
Shaykh Abdullah has served as Imam, teacher and counselor in the USA, Canada and the West Indies. For three years he contributed to the religious page of Canada’s leading newspaper. He has traveled to over 55 countries on lecture, research and educational tours.
