Matt marshak biography

Marshak, a native of Long Island, grew up on rock ‘n’ roll music in a home full of musicians. Passing guitarists inspired his muse, and in high school he honed his chops with three well-respected teachers: Joseph “Joey” Casciano, Mike Orioles and Richard Rabatin. They all inspired in him a lifelong commitment to his craft, while Rabatin in particular turned him on to the contemporary jazz and blues guitar sounds of Larry Carlton, George Benson and Robben Ford. While attending college at SUNY Geneseo, Matt had the opportunity to play with a blues and R&B group, as well as connecting and improvising with straight-ahead jazz saxophonist Joseph Yoon. Once out of college, Marshak performed a variety of musical styles with New York’s top original bands and artists, even drawing praise from Deep Purple’s legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore.

In 2001, Marshak released the solo CD Preservation and began to get even more notice in New York, which led to the gracious plug by CD 101.9 in 2003. He opened for the popular Guitars & Saxes tour and in 2004 offered This Time Around, follo

 


Long Island born guitarist Matt Marshak gave us already the albums Preservation (2001), This Time Around (2004)  Groovosphere(2006) andOn The Rocks (2008). Now he is back with his brand-new album Family Funktion (2009). Guest musicians on his new album are Shilts (Down To The Bone), David Mann, Stix Bones, Benjie Porecki, Kevin Flournoy, Carl Carter, Chris Marshak, Hans Z, Carl Burnett, Deadra Aziza and more. Matt comments his new album: “To me, it’s just not all about me. It’s about the whole unit and the people I work with.”

. Matt takes the direct way to you heart playing his guitar in a straight way without any decoration. I Will Be With You features Shilts, who is widely known as sax player and front man of the project Down To The Bone. The track has some acid jazz flavor injected with a hard snare beat and Shilt's signature sound. At the second part of the song Matt, Shilts and keyboardist Kevin Flournoy walk into a heavy acceleration of the theme.

Matt Marshak grew up in Eastern Long Island, NY. Rock n' roll and the blues were his first love. Guitarists Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani and BB King were some of his earliest influences. Matt performed with many bands as a sideman in NY performing at venues such as The Bitter End.
