Early life and background

Belinda Boyd was born on March 17, 1950, and raised in Chicago within the Nation of Islam (NOI) community. Her father, Brother Raymond, served as a prominent lieutenant under Elijah Muhammad, and her mother, Sister Inez (Aminah), worked within the temple as a security officer and companion to Sister Clara Muhammad, the NOI First Lady. When 18-year-old boxer Cassius Marcellus Clay (later known as Muhammad Ali) met Khalilah Ali (no relation) on the school grounds at the University of Islam for the first time in 1960, he introduced himself to her and said, “I’m going to be heavyweight champion of the world by the time I’m 21, so get your autographs now!” and gave her a slip of paper with his name on it. Dr. Khalilah Camacho Ali (born in 1950) is an actor, martial artist, author, motivational speaker, aviator, and film producer. She is also known for being the former wife of boxer Muhammad Ali.

She studied karate and earned her ninth-degree black belt. Khalilah studied under Jim Kelly, Steve Saunders, Bruce Lee, George Dillman and James W. DeMile. She is a graduate of the Muhammad University of Islam #2. Dr. Ali went to Capitol Hill and successfully took the name “Muslim” off of the travel ban in 2017. She is the author of the award-winning children's book series Color to Learn, which teaches etiquette and manners. She is also a motivational speaker, making appearances at churches, mosques (Masjid), temples, colleges, and universities. ​

She appeared on the cover of Ebony Magazine seven times. She appeared in the Jane Fonda film The China Syndrome.
