George Harrar

George Harrar is a fiction writer whose short stories have appeared in a dozen literary magazines. “The 5:22” won Story Magazine’s Carson McCullers Prize and was selected for the 1999 edition of Best American Short Stories. His first novel, First Tiger (Permanent Press), debuted in 1999 and was followed in 2003 by his literary mystery The Spinning Man (Penguin Putnam), described by The New York Times as “elegant and unnerving.” This novel has been adapted into the 2018 film “Spinning Man,” starring Guy Pearce, Minnie Driver, Pierce Brosnan and Odeya Rush, available On Demand and on Amazon. Education

Initially, George attended Jenkintown High School. In 1971, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from New York University.

Career

During the period from 1976 till 1979, George served as an editor at the Middlesex News (present-day The MetroWest Daily News) in Framingham, Massachusetts. Between 1980 and 1983, he acted as a freelance editor and writer in Wayland, Massachusetts. Then, in 1983, Harrar was appointed a features editor at Computerworld Newspaper in Framingham and remained in that position until 1989, when he began working as a freelance editor and writer again in Wayland, Massachusetts.
