Argent is an English rock band founded in 1969 by Rod Argent after his previous band, The Zombies, broke up. Argent's biggest hit was "Hold Your Head Up" (written by Rod Argent and Chris White). Released as a single in 1972, and taken in a heavily-edited form from the band's album "All Together Now", it was a Top 5 hit in both the US and UK, peaking at #5 in both countries. The original lineup re-united to perform at the High Voltage Festival in Victoria Park, London, in 2011 and did a short five-date tour as follow-up.

As well as Rod Argent, the other original members (most come from Hertfordshire, England) were drummer Robert Henrit and bassist Jim Rodford (later members of the Kinks) and guitarist/keyboardist Russ Ballard, who contributed to several compositions through the group's career (curiously some of Ballard's compositions became hits when they were covered by other bands, like Rainbow or Santana). When Russ Ballard left in 1973, his place was taken by guitarist and vocalist John Verity and guitarist John Grimaldi and there foll

Argent was an English art-rock band that released six studio albums and a live double-LP on Epic between 1970 and 1975, followed by a seventh on RCA. They were the namesake of ex-Zombies keyboardist Rod Argent. On their first five albums, Argent was a four-piece with singer/guitarist Russ Ballard, who found success outside the band as a songwriter.

Musically, Argent evolved through three-distinct phases: the moody art-pop of their 1970/71 albums Argent and Ring of Hands; the heavier rock of their 1972/73 releases All Together Now and In Deep; and the spacier vibe of their 1974/75 albums Nexus, Circus, and Counterpoints. Over time, the band embraced lavish sounds, epic song-forms, and elongated musical passages.

Members: Rod Argent (keyboards, vocals), Russ Ballard (vocals, guitar, piano, 1969-74), Jim Rodford (bass), Bob Henrit (drums), John Verity (vocals, guitar, 1974-76), John Grimaldi (guitar, vocals, 1974-76)

Rodney Terence Argent (born 14 June 1945) is an English musician. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Argent came to prominence in the mid-1960s as the keyboardist, founder and leader of the rock band the Zombies,[1] and went on to form the band Argent after the first break-up of the Zombies.[2]

Argent is one of the main composers of the Zombies' music and made major lyrical contributions to the band's songs. As the band's keyboardist he used a variety of instruments, including Hohner Pianet, Mellotron, harpsichord, and organ.

In addition to his work with the Zombies and Argent, Argent has made music for television series, been a session musician, produced albums by other artists, and had a solo career which has included three studio albums: Moving Home, Red House, and Classically Speaking. Argent was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Zombies in Brooklyn in March 2019.[3]
