The ABRSM 'Easier Piano Pieces' series features pieces chosen for their comparative lack of technical difficulty, therefore providing an excellent introduction to the music of great composers throughout history.
Tchaikovsky sub-titled this collection, first published in 1878, ‘24 easy pieces (à la Schumann)’. Like his predecessor, Tchaikovsky had the innate ability of writing for young people without writing down to them, as illustrated here with this set of charming and characteristic miniatures.

Peter Ilyich TCHAIKOVSKY
It is at 5 years that Tchaikovsky discovered the piano. Yet during his adolescence, he undertakes to study law. His legal career will be short. Tired of his work as an official at the Ministry of Justice which does not correspond to him, he decides to dedicate his life to music. It integrates the conservatory, studied composition and began a career as a composer 1863. Tchaikovsky's personality is complex. Of a depressive temper, he rejects his homosexual tendencies and embarks on relationships with women who will all be failures.
His artistic rise will not suffer from his fears. He gives triumphant tours in Europe and the United States which show an unusual glory for an artist of his generation. Tchaikovsky's music shows great creativity and diversity. It consists of ten operas, of three ballets, of six symphonies, of compositions for pianos, de mélodies ou encore d'?uvres chorales. Tchaïkovski demeure aujourd'hui l'un des compositeurs les plus connus et les plus prolifiques de sa génération.
