Terence Richard McAuliffe (born February 9, 1957) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 72nd governor of Virginia from 2014 to 2018.[1] A member of the Democratic Party, he was co-chairman of President Bill Clinton

Terry McAuliffe was sworn in as governor of Virginia on January 11, 2014.
McAuliffe is a businessman, entrepreneur and father who has lived in Fairfax County, Virginia, for more than 20 years. He is the son of Jack McAuliffe, who was an Army Captain in World War II, and Millie McAuliffe, who raised McAuliffe and his three brothers.
In order to help pay for college, McAuliffe started a business paving driveways for neighbors and local businesses at the age of 14. Since then, he has worked with and led numerous businesses in diverse sectors of the economy, helping to improve companies and create economic opportunity. In politics and business, McAuliffe has worked with people from all walks of life and different political backgrounds.
McAuliffe attended The Catholic University of America and Georgetown University Law Center. He and his wife Dorothy have attended St. Luke Catholic Church for two decades and have been involved in many sports, activities and competitions with their five children: Dori, Jack, Mary, Sally and Peter.

As the 72nd Governor of Virginia (2014-2018), McAuliffe (D) made a record 35 trade missions around the world, creating thousands of jobs and bringing in more than $20 billion in capital investment in the Commonwealth. The unemployment rate dropped from 5.4 percent to 3.6 percent, unemployment claims dropped to a 44-year low and personal income rose 12.3 percent.
While McAuliffe improved Virginia’s competitiveness in the global economy, he also focused on enhancing the quality of life for the Commonwealth’s citizens, assuring that economic opportunity in the diversified economy was a right, not a privilege.
